Skills cap by stat

SachaSacha [Reino de Aldor]
This is the skill cap system we plan to set up on our server. Maybe gives an idea to someone.

There is no total skill cap.
Each skill depends on a main stat. The points in that stat is the cap of the skill. So if you have STR 90, the skills that depend on STR can not be raised over 90.
Some skills depend also on a secondary stat. For each 4 points in the secondary stat over or under 50, you get 1 point more or less to the skill cap. So if you have AGI 70 (20 points over the average 50) the skills that have it as secondary stat get a +5 to the cap.

Example: your char has STR 90, AGI 70, INT 40.
The caps for different skills would be:
* STR: 90
* STR/AGI: 90 + 5 = 95
* STR/INT: 90 - 2 = 88
* AGI: 70
* AGI/STR: 70 + 10 = 80
* AGI/INT: 70 - 2 = 68
* INT: 40
* INT/STR: 40 + 10 = 50
* INT/AGI: 40 + 5 = 45

The skills depend on the following stats (table subject to changes probably):
- Archery: AGI/STR
- Bashing: STR
- Piercing: AGI/STR
- Slashing: STR/AGI
- Blocking: STR/AGI
- Dueling: STR/AGI
- Riding: AGI
- Magical power: INT
- Spells (mages): INT
- Prayers (priests): INT
- Enchantments (bards): INT
- Hexes (necromancers): INT
- First aid: INT/AGI
- Animal Knowledge: INT
- Lore: INT
- Diplomacy: INT
- Farmer: INT/STR
- Herbalist: INT/AGI
- Hunter: AGI/STR
- Fisher: INT/AGI
- Lumberjack: STR/AGI
- Miner: STR
- Cooking: INT
- Alchemy: INT
- Taylor: AGI
- Furriery: AGI
- Carpentry: AGI/STR
- Stonecutter: STR/AGI
- Blacksmith: STR/AGI

This list will be redone with the introduction of new stats (dexterity, charisma).

    I forgot to add that there IS a total stat cap (still to be decided), so you can't be 100 at all your stats :wink:
    This system allows an indirect skill cap, so new skills can be added at any time, and you can raise them limited only by the corresponding stat, but you don't have to use points that would be for other skills.

    Fishing Mage is OP plez nerf, and farmers got screwed hard!
    But seriously once you get dexterity and charisma in there it will be an interesting system to play with. And is there a minimum stat investment, like setting dexterity to 0 allowed?

    Aldor is a roleplaying server. You can't suddenly drop your DEX from 50 to 0 just because it suits you. Stats raise slowly as you use them, and they won't go down unless there's a reason for it. Maybe you get old and your STR start going down, or you get a hand cut off for stealing and it drops your DEX :)
    And fishing is just fishing. Very rarely you may find a treasure or an old boot, but it's meant for catching fishes.
  • Thanks for the info! Looks pretty sweet!
    Seems like you should rename your server to Jack(s) of All Trades :smiley:
    Is your server currently active?

    Not yet, we'll try to put it up after next alpha test begins.
    But Reino de Aldor is a server in Spain, aimed at spanish players (we will translate as much as we can).

    Knowing a few guys who like to fish... INT doesn´t seem to fit here ^^

    I kinda like the systems base idea. So getting GM at something is not really the aim in this?

    Haha, now that there are more stats we might move it to WIS or WIL.

    No, the aim is to have fun, and the game should be fun whether you have your skills at level 10 or 100.
    Truly, raising skills and stats will be slow, and getting a skill to 100 will be really difficult. But those who get there will sure be famous warriors, mages, crafters, thieves, etc.

    So rewards those who have more time to play?

    Of course those who play more and better will have higher levels of stats/skills (in general, because doing nice in quests, DM events, tournaments or competitions can give your char reward points for stats/skills).
    But since you can have a great time no matter what your level is, it's not really a reward system, it's just the consequence of practicing more a certain skill.
    Instead, solving a riddle, wining a game, finding a treasure or just being in the right spot at the right moment could give you better rewards (getting a title of nobility, becoming rich, entering a cavalry order, discovering a new spell noone knows yet, etc). And those are things that do not necessarily require playing more hours than the rest.

    You have to keep in mind that my server will not be a MMORPG. It aims at maybe 2 or 3 hundred total population, and around 30 - 60 players online at a time. So we can give more detail and coddle to each char's history and roleplay.
